Airline ‘59
This is my version of the classic 1959 Airline I took this long out of production guitar's design and made my own custom version. Original ones are hard to come by and honestly aren’t very good, despite being very aesthetically pleasing. So I decided to make my own version out of quality components and actual wood. I made the body out of a single piece of swamp ash while the neck is made from rock maple with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard inlays and the headstock shape are both based off the original guitar design. The tremolo I used on this is super unique and so fun to use. It’s like a modified Bigsby tremolo. The p90 pickups in this also sound fantastic. Custom cutting the pickguard by hand was pretty tough but the cream colored guard with the orange outline around the edges goes so well with the rest of the orange colored guitar body. I used a mixture of orange dye and iodine to stain the wood in order to get that color. Then I put on coat after coat of wood oil in order to get a nice thick and glossy finish. This is hands down my favorite custom I've made so far.
